Welcome to a new weekend feature, where we go through Eater Flickr Pool submissions and pick our favorite shots. Though we avoid it as much as possible, this is the one place on Eater where food porn may sneak in from time to time. Consider yourself warned. If you'd like to contribute, feel free to join our pool, or email us images directly.
You need more than a little sweltering heat and predictions of unbearable lines to keep New Yorkers away from the spectacle that is the annual Big Apple BBQ. Day one (still in progress btw) was a sweaty one. The lines were long, the ribs, pulled pork, and brisket in abundance, and all the grassy areas of Madison Square Park, jammed with scantily clad sauce covered meat lovers. Those with pre-ordered fast passes dealt with slightly shorter lines, but since there was no cap on those puppies, the benefits were marginal at a few stands. The longest line by far was the one for buying fastpasses, which should tell you something. Our advice for those of you going tomorrow: go at the very end of the day when the temp finally drops, all the barbecue obsessives have had their fill, and perhaps some deals can be had (if they don't run out first). Or just go to Shake Shack— their line was half as long as usual.

Take a look at these pictures. Now imagine the same scene but add one hundred thousand sweaty salivating barbecue fans, 92 degree heat (the weather prediction for tomorrow!), and ribs, sausages, brisket, and pulled pork as far as the eye can see. Then you have the amazing yet almost unbearably crowded yearly two-day event that is the Big Apple BBQ, taking place this weekend. We'll be navigating the hordes with you, so check in tomorrow for a full recap.

Attention all barbecue aficionados: you only have until Friday to buy your Fastpass to this year's Big Apple BBQ. Why get this fastpass for the not so insignificant sum of $100? Because anyone who's ever been to this meatfest knows that the lines are out-of-control insane. The pass lets you and a guest skip ahead and is redeemable for $100 worth of food and drink. Sure it's $50 each for 'cue, but at least you won't be the chump waiting half an hour for some ribs. [Big Apple BBQ]
WEST VILLAGE— On opening weekend exactly how much of a shitshow was Cabrito, DeChelaccio's new goat-focused Mexican restaurant in the West Village? In the pouring rain on Friday night, the place was respectably full at 8 PM and waits didn't seem to be epic, so credit where it's due for running a professional style house. Prices reasonable, and the food, as tested via a fried fish taco, though absolutely completely tasteless wasn't actually bad. All-in, non-disaster out of the gate, long term prognosis unclear. MADISON SQUARE PARK— The Big Apple BBQ sent around an email and updated their website to let us all in on which pit masters will make a showing at this year's event. From New York we have reps from Hill Country, Rack & Soul, Blue Smoke, and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. [EaterWire]
Get your wet naps ready: the Big Apple BBQ site has posted the dates for this year's grand fete a.k.a. one of the biggest events of the summer. June 7 - 8. 75 days and counting. Stay tuned for ticket purchasing info and full event coverage. [Big Apple BBQ]
