The mystery over at Red Hook's 360 persists: "360 Van Brunt now had a back-in-5-minutes-type sign taped in the window. And no for rent sign. Just this past Saturday I noticed it had a big new for rent sign out front." Did owner Arnaud Eckhard recover from his alleged nervous breakdown and return to reclaim the property? Is there a new buyer? And why are they taunting us with this sign? [Amy's New York Notebook]
Red Hook: In what many considered a foregone conclusion, Red Hook's 360 is officially closed for good and never coming back. No, this is not a complete surprise, but Red Hook locals have been dreading this final nail in the coffin for a better part of a year. For those new to the saga, a primer: 360 is the restaurant that put Red Hook on the dining map back when it opened in 2004. Early last year it suddenly closed without any warning or explanation. Owner Arnaud Eckhard was said to be on a short vacation, but it was revealed in November that he had finally cracked, was burnt out by the restaurant biz, and now spent most of his time scuba diving in tropical locales. In January the most recent chef Rick Jakobson quit, followed by the February departure of the sommelier. And now, finally, a 'For Rent' sign in the window confirms the end to the ordeal. No word as to what finally made Eckhard give up the ghost.

MEATPACKING—Postscript to the week in Merkato: word from their PR is Marcus Samuelsson is "contractually obligated" to be in Stockholm for the opening of Aquavit. When he made the promise, it was back when the restaurant was supposed to open in November, and he will be there to oversee things in New York next week. So being in Stockholm is not his bad, ok? But not delaying the opening until his return? We'd say that's a misstep on his part. [Eater Wire]
EAST VILLAGE—The new project in the old Remote Lounge space, run by the owners of Hi-Fi and Black and White, is going to open at the end of this month, and will be called Bowery Electric. [Zagat Buzz]
MIDTOWN—More changes are afoot at the confused and troubled restaurant Sanju: "The soap opera of Saju continues. It appears they are now a Med. style Bistro...I saw pastas, a special of corn chowder on the menu today....Someone call Gordon Ramsay or lets just deathwatch this place." The committee is taking it under consideration. [Eater Wire]

You can see them, over the water, off to the southwest. They're coming from Red Hook." Friends, this has spurred us to action. Much more to follow. [NYMag]
From the tipline: "I passed by 360 on Monday night on my way home from work and there was a woman loading large boxes of vegetables into the basement. Looks like something's happening." This follows a commenter report from late last week of "two women bringing in boxes to the basement." Calls to the popular prix fixe restaurant, shuttered since early summer, rung endlessly. A few bits of news now from the far off land we know, and love, as Red Hook.
1) First, a person closely connected with the space formerly known as Lillie's writes with new details on the bar replacing it, owned by Brooklyn restaurateur Neil Ganic: "Lillie's will reopen (Soft) in about 3 to 4 weeks with a cool underground modern feel and a new name, Layla's. The whole place was gutted and the bar's history was hidden under years of decadence and abuse. The original 1930's bar and many of the timeless decor was saved and is standing proud among the new futuristic lounge style additions. Rumors are that this bar was a mafia hot spot 30 to 40 years ago. Capone was a regular back in the day and may have been owner at one point. The bar could be open to the public around the first of December. The bar will have several attractions nightly from an amateur comedy open mic night to Big Name Music artist and bands for exclusive engagements on Friday and Saturday. A few of the backers are in the music industry and own a big name guitar company (secret). I got a tip about there being a celebrity VIP night that is by invitation only before the opening. This will be a red carpet event with New York's celebs only in attendance." Recall as well that a branch of Ganic's La Bouillabaisse, in Brooklyn Heights, is coming as well. Bar/restaurant respective addresses: 46/44 Beard Street. [Eater Inbox]
