This won't be a shocker to anyone who spotted Willis Loughhead cooking at Govind Armstrong's Table 8 preview last month: The Feedbag reports that the ex-Country chef is now in at the upcoming Table 8 in the Cooper Square Hotel. Armstrong will be in charge of concept, Loughhead will be cooking every night:
"Loughhead’s full title is Executive Chef of the Cooper Square Hotel and Chef de Cuisine at Table 8, but he’ll be doing a lot more than just running Armstrong’s kitchen — he’s back to his old salty tricks, curing meat and fish, and helping to create the menus for two lounges, two bars, a 120-seat dining room, and a “salt bar” featuring various cured and marinated animal products. We chat with Willis.>>
Midtown Lunch reports that Del Frisco's Steakhouse is the latest restaurant to get sued by its employees, this time for discrimination against Hispanic workers by not allowing them to take a full one-hour lunch break. From the suit: "Class action for discrimination and retaliation as well as violation of New York State labor laws for complaints about these violations. The defendants treated their Hispanic employees disparately and did not allow their Hispanic employees to take meal breaks as required by state law." [ML]
Note their loose definition of "celebrity": "24 Prince has been having celebrity guest chef pizza night every Sunday. The first week was Gail Simmons...This week two season one Top Chef contestants, LeeAnn Wong and Andrea Beaman will join Chef/Owner Nikki Cascone and design their own pizza's. Scheduled for Sunday December 7th is Christian Siriano of Project Runway Fame with Renaissance Man Brad Walsh." [EaterWire]
The competition in the fourth day of voting for our Hottest Chef in New York contest is getting heated. McFarland, Flay, and Fanelli don't seem to have a fighting chance, but Park Avenue Autumn's Cragi Koketsu and Momofuku Noodle Bar's Kevin Pemoulie are neck and neck. Support your chefs. Go and vote. "Village Pourhouse on the Upper West Side has implemented a new policy. If you take a cab to visit the new spot, the Pourhouse will match your cab fare in the form of a bar tab...Direct the cabby to Amsterdam between 108th and 109th, ask for a receipt when you arrive, and the bartender will start your tab with a credit for the same amount as your fare." Now that the temporary Outsiders Art Fair—being held at the future Keith McNally pizza joint—is over, the man can get down to business. The work is being cleared out, the space, cleaned up. [Bowery Boogie]
We were wondering how long it would take Easy Ed and his gang of Serious Eaters to run some food porn of the offerings at Momofuku's bakery and milk bar. The answer: 25.5 hours after they opened for friends and family. [SENY]

Round One of our Hottest Chef in New York contest continues today. Yesterday, in what was an incredibly tight race throughout the day, Dovetail's John Fraser upset his rival Akhtar Nawab in a late night rally. Today, more voting! Craig Koketsu goes up against Bobby Flay, Giuseppi Fanelli, Ed McFarland, and Kevin Pemoulie, and hard core campaigners be warned, we're monitoring suspicious activity. For a look at all 45 contenders, see the gallery here. May the hottest chef win.
To the VOTING.>>Another New York based Throwdown with Bobby Flay is about to hit the five boroughs, this time at Staten Island's Chow Gourmet. The fake pitch this time, meant to confuse the owners: "'Chopped Chef is about trying to give regular chefs a shot at a little competition,' he said, explaining that the show isn't like Top Chef where it's an ongoing series. Rather, the last chef standing in the cook-off will win a weekly competition.'" [LV]
