It's happening: pastry whiz/Cronut creator Dominique Ansel will open a location of his eponymous bakery in Tokyo. Set to start slinging Cronuts by Summer 2015, Ansel announced the news on Instagram this afternoon. For this venture, Ansel is partnering with two conglomerates: TSI Holdings and Transit General. The pastry shop will open inside Omotesando Hills, a shopping complex in central Tokyo.
For his second storefront, Ansel overlooked all of the rest of the U.S., Paris, and all of Europe and went straight for Japan. Has he not heard that Cronut fever has swept the U.S. and that prospective patrons in Los Angeles, Portland, Dallas, or Chicago would be happy to have him? He says: "This is something that means a lot to me and a city that every pastry chef aspires to." He also mentions that a new pastry will be created to celebrate the new shop. Eater has reached out to Ansel's team for further details.
