Texas is about to get some serious deep dish action. According to Eater Austin, Gino's East, one of Chicago's iconic pizza institutions, plans to open an outlet in Austin and is currently hiring general managers in "several other Texas cities," including San Antonio, Dallas, and Woodlands. A spokesperson for Gino's tells Eater Austin that the restaurants "will feature Chicago craft beers, the restaurant's signature sausage, and Texas barbecue pizzas."
Gino's East has partnered with Texas "breastaurateur" Doug Guller (of the Bikinis chain) for the expansion: Currently, Gino's East only has locations in the Chicago area. While the restaurant may be iconic in its hometown, it may have a tough time finding success elsewhere, especially when many don't even consider deep dish to be pizza.
