Forage, a San Francisco-based subscription meal service in the vein of "delivery box" companies like Blue Apron and Plated, has officially launched, offering recipes from popular restaurants. The Wall Street Journal reports Forage works with chefs — from the likes of Hapa Ramen, Daniel Patterson's Alta, and Dosa South Indian Cuisine — to collect recipes and gather the appropriate ingredients to the home-delivered "meal kits."
For more difficult dishes, Forage's in-house chefs will pre-make certain components, with the goal of having each restaurant recipe take the home cook less than 20 minutes to make. (Presumably, the pork ramen broth in Hapa Ramen's kit will arrive as a pre-made item; as would the corn pierogies from Alta.) The WSJ reports Forage plans to raise its "formal seed round" later this year, but early angel investors include Twitter CEO Evan Williams.
