The Michelin guide has announced its 2014 stars for France, and guess what: the leaks were right. Arnaud Lallement's Assiette Champenoise in Reims is the newest three star restaurant in France. (Condolences to Monsieur Gilles Pudlowski, restaurant critic at Le Point, who last week decried the leak in his column and questioned the guide's recent "bizarre promotions.") Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée, which previously had three stars, is currently closed for a remodel and not included in this year's guide. The total number of three stars in France holds steady at 27.
There are six new two star restaurants in France, including Villa Madie (Cassis), Table du Connétable (Chantilly), Kintessence in Courchevel 1850 (Savoie), Chambard (Kayseberg), Il Cortile (Mulhouse), and Akrame (Paris). Chef Stefano d' Onghia of Il Cortile is apparently the first Italian to be awarded two Michelin stars in France.
There are 57 new one star restaurants, bringing the total number of one star restaurants to a ridiculously high 504. One of those stars went to Table d'Uzès chef Oscar Garcia, who is only 25. The press release below is quick to point out how young the chefs on the list skew, with "seven one star chefs under 30). Michelin also sent out a spreadsheet noting how many women chefs are represented on the list: 17 restaurants with 16 women chefs. (Anne-Sophie Pic has two restaurants with stars.) Below, the full list of stars and Michelin's press release.
