Here's a marketing gimmick straight from Russia: A KFC in Moscow has set up a video filming station in the restaurant to film customers in the hopes of finding a star for their commercials. Fast Company reports that the restaurant is using a MovieMatic "automated moviemaking machine," which allows customers to film themselves promoting the new Bacon iTwister wrap.
The campaign is called "Be a Star" and there are hundreds of these customer-made movies on the KFC Russia YouTube channel. Each participant is given the same set of prompts: "bite into a Bacon iTwister, toss a cell phone into a cup and dance like crazy." The videos are then completed with b-roll to make a 45 second commercials. While today is the last day to film a commercial in Moscow, the MovieMatic will be in St. Petersburg for two weeks beginning on February 19. Below are some choice "Be a Star" commercials, go watch:
