Earlier this month the Polar Vortex slammed the Midwest with snow and freezing temperatures, and now it's the South's turn to battle the Winter elements. Winter Storm Leon has hit states across the Deep South from Texas and Mississippi to the Carolinas and Virginia. The Weather Channel reports that as of this morning the storm has already killed seven and cancelled some 3,000 flights. Restaurants throughout the South have had to make the call about whether to open in spite of the weather, or close due to safety concerns.
Over in Atlanta — where snow ground traffic to a halt last night — the list of restaurants remaining open is pretty modest. Eater Atlanta notes that with poor driving conditions, diners should plan on walking.
Many restaurants in the South were closed yesterday as well. Eater Austin, Eater Charleston, and Eater NOLA all tracked yesterday's openings and closures. Keep warm out there, and if you find a restaurant that's willing to deliver, please remember to tip well.
