Pizza Hut is trying to ruin Thanksgiving: A GM of a Pizza Hut in Elkhart, Indiana claims he was fired for refusing to open the restaurant on Thanksgiving. WSBT 22 spoke with former Pizza Hut employee Tony Rohr who says that he "took a stand" at a meeting and told superiors that he had no intention of keeping the restaurant open during the holiday. Rohr claims that following his actions, he was told to sign a resignation letter. Refusing, Rohr says he instead sent a letter that stated: "I am not quitting. I do not resign however I accept that the refusal to comply with this greedy, immoral request means the end of my tenure with this company ... hope you realize that it's the people at the bottom of the totem pole that make your life possible."
As of yet there's been no official statement on the subject from Pizza Hut HQ, but WSBT spoke with one of Rohr's bosses who says that Rohr quit and was not fired. He also explains that ultimately the decision on whether to open on a holiday lies with the company, not with an individual. Rohr, who worked his way up to GM from cook over the course of more than ten years, says he hoped Pizza Hut would "be the company that stands up and says we care about our employees." Outraged commenters on Pizza Hut's Facebook seem to agree with Rohr, with one commenter writing: "It would be so refreshing to read of a large corporation who actually valued their lower level employees ... So what if someone can't buy a pizza from your stores ONE day out of the year." Below, a video from WSBT's interview with Rohr. Go, watch:
