David Wondrich, the cocktail guru/author of Imbibe! and Punch!, will be editing the Oxford Companion to Spirits and Cocktails. According to Publishers Marketplace, the book will contain "1,000 to 1,200 detailed A-Z entries on all aspects of distilled spirits and cocktails around the world." It sounds like it will be pretty similar to last year's Oxford Companion to Beer, which Brooklyn Brewery's Garrett Oliver edited. No word yet on when it will be released.
Wondrich has been described as the "foremost expert on the history of the American cocktail." PDT bartender Jim Meehan called Wondrich's most recent book, Imbibe!, which was the first cocktail book to receive a James Beard award, one his favorites: "You can't leave out David Wondrich's book Imbibe!, the biography of Jerry Thomas... His writing... is indispensable."
