Restaurateur/living legend Guy Fieri swung by Today to defend himself against New York Times restaurant critic Pete Wells' scathing review of his New York restaurant. (The real Guy Fieri, not fake absurd Guy Fieri.) Predictably, Fieri's not too happy about the review, which was comprised entirely of questions like "Have you pulled up one of the 500 seats at Guy's American Kitchen & Bar and ordered a meal?" and "Why did the toasted marshmallow taste like fish?"
Fieri flew all night on a red eye to get to his restaurant, where he spoke with Today's Savannah Guthrie. Calling the review "ridiculous" and "so overboard," he accused Wells of having an agenda (although did not specify what said agenda was). He also seemed really, truly surprised that his restaurant got reviewed so quickly. Fieri brought up the fact that the review ran a mere two months after the restaurant opened several times (which is actually pretty standard?). He said, "It's a great way to make a name for yourself. Go after a celebrity chef who's not a New Yorker that's doing a big concept, and in its second month." Here's the video:
