After Guy Fieri stopped by the Today show to defend his New York restaurant, Guy's American Kitchen and Bar, against a now-notorious goose egg from NYT critic Pete Wells, he stuck around to chat with Star Jones, Donny Deutsch, and Dr. Phil. And then noted society reporter Dr. Phil let this bomb drop: "Last night, the New York Times hosted a 160-person party at that restaurant." Last night, as in the same day the scathing review ran in the print edition of the newspaper? The source was Dr. Phil, so who knows, but Fieri didn't correct him. The NYT offices are close to Guy Fieri's restaurant.
UPDATE: Fieri's publicist tells Eater, "Yes, The New York Times hosted an event for the broadway community at the restaurant yesterday." And a Times spokesperson tells Poynter, "The Times ad sales department hosted an event for clients at the restaurant last night. It was planned two months ago." So there you have it.
