Here's Zak Pelaccio's new cookbook Eat With Your Hands, full of recipes from his New York restaurants Fatty Crab and Fatty 'Cue. The book clearly aims for a sort of rock 'n roll vibe, most notably in a recipe for whole hog that calls for, among other things, two bottles of the hard-to-get Pappy Van Winkle bourbon, a couple joints, and an 8-ball. Each recipe is accompanied by a music recommendation and a drink suggestion, to be drunk during cooking "to alleviate stress and [numb] you to the trivial concerns of a broken society." (If you're still not convinced that drinking while cooking is a great idea, he quotes playwright Eugène Ionesco at you.)
A good chunk of the recipes themselves are dedicated to the Malaysian cuisine, and will have you rushing to the nearest Asian supermarket for a brand new pantry. Other recipes come from Pelaccio's Italian background, or are fantasies in supreme meat fandom (hog heads, beef cheeks, etc). Eat With Your Hands comes out from Ecco April 17 (preorder on Amazon).
