Today chef Andy Wrobel, a 25-year veteran of Melbourne, Australia's The Pancake Parlour, broke the Guinness world record for the world's tallest stack of pancakes: 60 of them that reached 76 centimeters (about 2 1/2 feet).
Wrobel attempted to break the record last year but only reached 61 centimeters. This time around, as he told ABC Australia, they "had a lot of practices, spent about 50 hours, probably used another quarter of a ton of buckwheat mix, and finally got to the point where [they] needed to go," said the chef.
The event was held on Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Day), the annual celebration before Ash Wednesday that's held in several English-speaking countries. It calls for families to consume all the sugar, fat, flour, and eggs in their homes, usually in the form of pancakes. Here's a video from last year's attempt:
