A man is suing an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant in Los Angeles for discriminating against him for having diabetes. David Martin went to A Ca-Shi Sushi and ordered the all-you-can-eat sushi — but because of his Type 2 diabetes, he only ate the fish and skipped the rice.
Owner Jay Oh had a problem with that, because obviously someone eats the rice will fill up more faster than someone who doesn't and, as he says, "If you only eat the fish, I would go broke." Oh told Martin to eat the rice or order sashimi, and when Martin refused, Oh charged him for a la carte sashimi.
Now Martin is suing for $4,000 because of the "humiliation, embarrassment and mental anguish" he endured.
Martin's attorney says "we are not after money, but a change in A Ca-Shi's thinking and policy," but Martin also offered to drop the suit for a $6,000 payout, so we're not so sure.
