From an email directed at commercial real estate brokers, we learn that the owners of the hit Spanish/Catalan tapas restaurant Boqueria (two locations in New York City) are looking to expand the concept to Washington, DC.
Another part of the email reads, "Our mission is to become the discriminating guest's preferred choice for Spanish cuisine in the United States by offering 'gastropub' quality Spanish cuisine and re-creating an authentic 'tapas bar' experience." Which can only mean they have their sights set on much more than just DC.
Boqueria's ex-chef Seamus Mullen split amicably from the restaurant back in July, although the reasons are still unknown. The current chef is Marc Vidal, a Spanish chef who most recently won attention (semifinalist for a Beard award) at Solea at the W South Beach Hotel. To get an idea of what the space might look like, see photos of Boqueria Soho on Eater NY.
