Making Sense of Mischief at The Box
Thursday, May 8, 2008

2008_05_thebox.jpgSome strange happenings at The Box that we are currently trying to make sense of:
1. They are now listed on OpenTable. You can only get resys for the Friday and Saturday 7:30 dinner theater, and following suit of much bigger and better restaurants, they will charge your credit card $150 per person if you cancel. Curious.

2. The events planner sent an email Monday to favored clients introducing new chef Justin Hilbert, who started two months ago and hails from wd~50. He will be offering some kind of prix fixe described on OT as "Fusion / Eclectic, Gastro Pub, Contemporary American".

It seems like Simon Hammerstein's celebrity packed LES venue is trying to reach a new demographic to push for those earlier seatings. From what we read in the gossip rags, he club is doing just fine for its late night burlesque shows, but we're guessing the $150 dinner theater tickets are a harder sell. It will be interesting to see who actually ends up booking through OpenTable and if the changes affect The Box's overall image.
