WEST VILLAGE— On opening weekend exactly how much of a shitshow was Cabrito, DeChelaccio's new goat-focused Mexican restaurant in the West Village? In the pouring rain on Friday night, the place was respectably full at 8 PM and waits didn't seem to be epic, so credit where it's due for running a professional style house. Prices reasonable, and the food, as tested via a fried fish taco, though absolutely completely tasteless wasn't actually bad. All-in, non-disaster out of the gate, long term prognosis unclear. MADISON SQUARE PARK— The Big Apple BBQ sent around an email and updated their website to let us all in on which pit masters will make a showing at this year's event. From New York we have reps from Hill Country, Rack & Soul, Blue Smoke, and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. [EaterWire]

UNION SQUAREWhole Foods is throwing a charity event for City Harvest on Thursday from noon to 3 p.m. From their press release: "Grab your blankets and bring your appetite...For just a small $5.00 donation, New Yorkers will get to indulge in their choice of hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers or turkey burgers and dessert with their choice of chips and refreshing cold beverages at this community picnic." [EaterWire]

FORT GREENE— Cutty reports that some of the vendors from the Red Hook ball fields will set up booths at the weekly Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene: "Find at first a simple fruit-and-vegetable stand with grilled corn, watermelon, and the like, then in future Sundays expect Red Hook favorites like huaraches and pupusas." [Cutlets]
