Barflies
Monday, May 12, 2008

2008_05_barflies.jpgNot all barflies are drunken red-cheeked old men. The Times runs a piece today on Claire Oesch, who has been coming to or working at Café des Artistes every day for the last 60 years, and it's just so cute it hurts: "The bartender (who’s been serving her for 27 years) puts a light dinner in front of her even when she's not hungry. Old friends regale her...Every couple of years, a wealthy financier, one of the admiring throng, closes down the restaurant and gives a black-tie dinner in her honor..." [NYT]
