The Shutter: Jour et Nuit, Yummy Shawarmy, Rong Bao, and More!
Wednesday, April 30, 2008

There have been so many small shutterings this week that we are rolling out the Shutter Report a little early. Know of a place that has served its last meal? Let us know.

1) Midtown: Both Guest of a Guest and TONY report on the closing of Jour et Nuit, which was just transformed from Frederick's under 6 months ago: "...business was thriving and was not the reason for the closing, but rather a constricting and costly lease dispute with their landlord that has dragged on in the courts since JEN’s inception." [Guest of a Guest, TONY]

2) West Village: This one is notable for the lightening quick open-shutter turnaround. Here's the word on Yummy Shawarmy from the tipline: "This Yummy Sharmy place appears to be shuttered after making a colorful splash on lower 7th ave. a month ago. sign in window we will see. only shawarma place I knew with an army helicopter on the delivery menu." [Shutter Inbox]

3) Midtown West: Midtown Lunch brings the news of a mysterious and possibly permanent closure in Midtown: "Super cheap Chinese steam table, Rong Bao Fast Food, on 38th btw. 7+8th, was mysteriously closed yesterday. Not sure if this is permanent, but if it is, it’s no big surprise. Given the choice between Rong Bao, and the newly renovated Ying Du directly across the street...I’d always go to Y.D." [Midtown Lunch]

4) Clinton Hill: Clinton Hill blog reports on the unsurprising shuttering of Head Over Heels Cafe: "I’d call them and they were open, but when I’d go by (I tried at least five times), there was no sign of them — no open storefront, no signage, nothing. Finally, it seems they’ve thrown in the towel." [Clinton HIll Blog]
