Subject: The Guys From Artichoke Can't Keep Their Store Open

——

Over the past week, I've made 3 unsuccessful trips to Artichoke. I went once at 2pm on a Sunday to find that they were shuttered, once at 1:30pm on a Wednesday to find them open for business but with no pizza to sell, and finally I went at 3:30pm this past Saturday, to find the gate up, the guys inside, but the door locked. Although this didn't really come as a surprise, they did post a curious pen-on-paper-plate sign on their door that read, 'Please help us look for an Apt. We can't commute reward a slice a day for a month plus we will be open more hours thanks for the support. Fran & Sal.' I only wish I could pay my broker fees in pizza.

Subject: Does Anyone Else Find Artichoke Infuriating?

——

Does anyone else find Artichoke infuriating? First, they get all that attention right before they open, probably due to outright shilling. They claim to be Manhattan's DiFara about 15 minutes throwing open their doors. They get major media attention right away, despite other good low-key slice joints going decades with nary a printed word. Now they can't even keep their store open, because of the commute? As if thousands upon thousands of other city business employees don't commute? They seem to make it to work on time. It's pizza, not the atom bomb! By the way, this rant in no way triggered by my trip there at 1pm on Saturday, only to find the gate lowered.
