2008_04_waxman.jpgEAST VILLAGE—Cutty has the news that chef Jonathan Waxman may be opening a new project in the East Village: "This may be a pipe dream for Manhattan carnivores, but we’re told by a source close to Jonathan Waxman that the Barbuto chef is in the process of leasing the former Kurowycky Meats space on First Avenue. Waxman will call the place Meat and will use the old smokehouse equipment to create a menu of artisanal smoked-meat dishes." [Cutlets]

TRIBECA—The crew at Employees Only have found a spot in Tribeca for their new venture, Zepellin. Good luck with that CB1 guys: "...the Employees Only gang have found a new home for Zeppelin, the bar/restaurant originally slated for West 9th Street, in Tribeca. Construction starts next week on a former bar around Church and Worth Streets with an opening slated for September." [Bottomless Dish]

EAST VILLAGE— This just in about a new bar/coffee shop opening on East 1st St. soft opening tomorrow: "Arlo and Esme is a new bar opening at 42nd E First St, the old Chez Es Saada location. Consulting with Kobricks Coffee, Harry Joannides developed a concept that offers a coffee-geeks’ coffee bar upstairs, and a Lower-Eastsider’s lounge downstairs. DJ's start spinning at 10:30 on Thursdays and Saturdays...'it’s like an old speakeasy. It’s a great opportunity to show off our coffees in a really interesting way.'" [EaterWire]

UPPER WEST SIDEFood & Wine just released their third annual Go List, a directory of the hottest new restaurant around the world. New York was listed as one of the world's best restaurant cities (of course) but we didn't make their list of the best new restaurants of the year. However, Fabio Trabocchi was listed as a next "chef superstar", Kefi made it for best value, and Alto was named best restaurant for sightseers. [F&W]
