EaterWire: Manhattan Mall Food Court Closing, Prohibition Not Closing, Paper Up at Ago, DiFara's Pizza Scalping
Monday, March 3, 2008

agopaperup.jpgUPPER WEST SIDE—An Upper West Sider, saddened by the state of his neighborhood in general, sends in this tip about local bar Prohibition: "...next-door neighbor Prohibition, long a decent live-music venue, is said to be closing in the next few weeks. I guess we'll finally be getting the Duane Reade that has been missing from this 8-block stretch. Lucky us."
UPDATE: As it turns out, Prohibition is definitively not closing. Per an email from the owner: "...There is absolutely no truth to this. I can't tell you how many emails and calls I've had to respond to due to this irresponsible posting. Apparently the "tip" was received from a neighborhood resident. Who knows what his motives may have been?" [EaterWire]

MIDTOWN—Zach Brooks of Midtown Lunch laments the loss of the Manhattan Mall Food Court and the island's only Arby's: "The Manhattan Mall on 34th St. & 7th Ave. has sold the food court space in their basement to J.C. Penny, and most of the places have already closed. The biggest casualty, Manhattan’s only Arby’s, the undisputed favorite for fans of fast food roast beef flavored bologna. It will be missed." [Midtown Lunch]

TRIBECA—The paper is back up at Ago people. Per a tipster: "The paper has been put back up at 'Ago'. Was that just a bit of a strip tease on Thursday?" Indeed it was. [EaterWire]

MIDWOOD—What to do if you're rich, love DiFara's, and hate waiting in line? Just scalp a slice or two. Per a tipster: "I was in there yesterday...When my two regular pies came up after an hour forty-five, the guy next to me, who just walked in, said, 'I'll give you $60 for two slices.' As I took the cash from his hand and handed him two plates, he said, 'I might have overbid you...' Ya think! The fact that he would go directly to $60, not $20 or $40, for two slices makes me think that $4 a slice aint so bad (or that the secret to the sauce is crack). Or that I need to start a side business scalping Di Fara's on the street on 14th and J." [EaterWire]
