No better way to end up the week than with a little DOH action. As mentioned earlier, health inspectors closed down the historic and tourist-ridden Stage Deli this afternoon due to a failed inspection. The problem: a "severe vermin infestation". According to the report the DOH stopped by Stage for an initial inspection on Wednesday and gave them 48 hours to get rid of the rodents. But did they take advantage of the reprieve? Sounds like a no. The full statement from the Health Department follows.
"The Stage Deli was closed following an inspection on Friday, March 14, 2008 because of multiple health violations, including a severe vermin infestation.· DOH Chronicles: Stage [~E~]In order to reopen, the Stage Deli must rectify the violations and contact the Health Department to schedule a re-opening inspection. The Stage Deli was previously closed in March 2006 by the Health Department for similar Health Code violations.
The Health Department inspected the Stage Deli on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 and found multiple health violations including a severe vermin infestation. The Department allowed the Stage Deli to remain open as it was able to correct violations of greatest concern and then gave the deli 48 hours to correct the remaining outstanding issues. When the Department returned on Friday, March 14, 2008, Stage Deli was once again found to be operating with repeat, severe health violations and was consequently closed."
