This is such a big plywood week that we've made a mega plywood gallery, featuring signage from Chelsea to the LES to the West Village and beyond.
Grom, saying it loud, saying it proud
1) West Village: There was a little Grom plywood action last week but since then some significant signage has gone up announcing its arrival (above). Via the tipline: "Plywood is still up at old abitinos at bleeker and carmine but they pulled down the bills and added this. So it looks like gelato for the west village." [PLYWOOD]
2) Carroll Gardens: And some new developments on Court Street: "it seems the the dry cleaner on court and sackett is about to close and turn into a restaurant - they did try and negotiate a space across the street from them but that landlord wanted a restaurant. the OTB a few doors down, about to turn into - a restaurant! very sad indeed." [PRE-PLYWOOD]
3) Chelsea: Quinto Pino may have some competition on the way: "...it looks like another Chelsea Spanish place wants to open up in a former small gallery spot on 9th ave between 24th and 25th right near El Quinto Pino and is waiting on a liquor license. This should be on the same block as the upcoming but never coming Sullvian St Bakery pizza joint." [PLYWOOD]
4 ) East Williamsburg: Count Desy's Clam Bar on Grand and Union as the newest arrival on a quickly developing stretch of East Williamsburg. [PLYWOOD]
5) Lower East Side: From the looks of the photo sent in by a tipster, Slurp, on the corner of Allen and Stanton will be opening any day now. Tables are set, paper is down, chopsticks are out. [PLYWOOD]
6) East Village: And as always, there's news coming in from Avenue A: "In the old space of Nopal del Este on this corner, apparently they are renovating this space for a new restaurant. There have been no clues as to what though..." [PLYWOOD]
7) Chelsea: From the inbox we have a concise tip on some Chelsea developments: "Ate Avenue...Replacing Helen's on 8th That's really all I'm going to say." The signage in the window reports they will be open lunch through late night (above) [PLYWOOD]
8) West Village: And from the West Village wire, there's some activity in Sheridan Square, as a tipster sends in the above photo saying this: "New place next to Tasca put signage up." [PLYWOOD]
9) Roosevelt Island: The Roosevelt Islander is reporting that the eagerly anticipated spot Fuji East is opening tomorrow: "Sign on the window of the new Fuji East Japanese Bistro at Riverwalk announcing the Grand Opening of Roosevelt Island's newest restaurant on Saturday, March 1. HOORAY!" [PLYWOOD]
10) Chinatown: Per an email from the PR people behind new Chinatown restaurant Red Egg: "...opening soon at 202 Centre Street. Construction is moving rapidly ahead and is looking to open in the next 6 weeks. The restaurant features Hong Kong style Chinese food coupled nicely with Peruvian/Chinese dishes giving it a unique flavor in Chinatown." [PLYWOOD]
11) Chinatown: Lady Strongbuzz has the latest news on plywooded Broadway East: "Broadway East, the organic eatery originally chef’d by vegetarian authority Peter Berely will open next weekend (March 7th) with a new chef at the stoves...The downstairs bar is made from wood that was recycled from a NYC water tower and the dining room is cushioned by a “Living Green Wall,” a soil-based wall of greenery and plants that covers 240 vertical square feet of space." [PLYWOOD]
12) Park Slope: And finally, Gowanus Lounge has the latest developments on the fro-yo place, so far known as Yogo Monster, going up on 7th Ave: "...the exterior definitely has an Oko/Pinkberryish look and here's a peek at the interior below. Looks like we're closing in an opening just in time for the weather to be more conducive to eating frozen yogurt type things." [PLYWOOD]
