Thursday, February 14, 2008

tacobite.jpgLOWER EAST SIDE— Gawker stumbles upon a secret bar in a former vaudeville theater, takes a short video. From the videographer: "I shot as much as i could before I was forced to turn my camera off, but I think you can get an idea of the insanity that is this room. Easily one of New York's best kept secrets. I was told its an original vaudeville theater from way back and thats about all I could find out. I managed to spill a drink all over a old piano converted into a bar." [Gawker]

EAST VILLAGE— Cutty has it that the East Village Yacht Club is closing up shop and relocating: "'Apparently they are moving to a new space. Last night was their last open evening. They're moving to a two-floor space on Bowery and Bond. They'll open there in a week.' Perhaps he’s referring to the space on Bowery and Bleecker that used to house Mannahatta?" [Cutlets]

WILLIAMSBURG— Taco Bite, a favorite neighborhood joint that closed in '06, reopened over the weekend in a new South 4th St. spot: "Taco Bite just reopened this past weekend...Now it's on South 4th St at Rodney (by the BQE). They've expanded their menu and are a full fledged restaurant now, no longer just operating out of the side of a restaurant. They're still waiting on their liquor license, but their menu spans a whole two pages now..." [Little Read Book]

WEST VILLAGE— Take heart all lovers of pig feet: Hakata Tonton plans to reopen tomorrow, one week after it's DOH-mandated shuttering. Gothamist has the good word: "The gal who picked up the phone at the restaurant today said the temple of trotters plans to open tomorrow. DOH gave them the go-ahead after they passed their inspection yesterday." [Gothamist]

CHELSEAFriedman's Deli opens in the Chelsea Market, and Bottomless Dish is there with the menu pics: "As you can see from the photo, the look is micro-diner, while the kosher menu offers up a surprisingly robust selection for such a tiny space. In addition to the usual sandwich suspects--pastrami, corned beef, tongue--knishes, burgers, soups, "chicken in a pot" and stuffed cabbage are available." [Bottomless Dish]
