The Dish: Frank White, Huckleberry Bar, Omido, Belcourt

2007_10_frankwhite.jpg1) Frank White: The cafe/lounge that, according to the press materials, is "single handedly transforming the industrial stretch of Atlantic Avenue aligned with auto shops and warehouses to a social destination for progressive and global Brooklynites" has opened. Frank White is serving vegetarian and organic dishes, pastries, coffee and weekend brunch. 936 Atlantic Ave at St. James Pl, Clinton Hill, Brooklyn; (phone number n/a) [Eater Inbox; Clinton Hill Blog]

2) Huckleberry Bar: Bars are a dime a dozen in Williamsburg, but the pedigree of the team behind Huckleberry Bar sets it apart from the pack (two clichés in one sentence!). Owners Stephanie Schneider and Andrew Boggs and chef Seth Johnson have all done time in one or more of Danny Meyer's joints. They are offering, per Lady Strongbuzz, 'well-valued wines by the glass, inventive seasonal cocktails and carefully chosen imported and domestic beers' as well as small plates (natch). It all seems a bit fancy for East Williamsburg, but hey, if Wombat can survive over there... 588 Grand St between Leonard and Lorimer Sts, Williamsburg, Brooklyn; (718) 218-8555 [Strongbuzz; Rob & Robin for Cutlets]

3) Omido: The reason why this Japanese midtowner received mentions from both Flo Fab and Rob and Robin: the interior comes courtesy of hot design group AvroKo. The menu doesn't sound too shabby either, with chef Eiji Takase (formerly of SushiSamba) preparing sushi and an assortment of cold and hot plates like panko-crusted fried oysters and organic scottish salmon with citrus miso. 1695 Broadway at 53rd St; (212) 247-8110 [Flo Fab; NY Mag; Metromix]

4) Belcourt: East Village plywood vet Belcourt officially opens for dinner tomorrow night, but of course, you could probably sneak in for friends and family tonight. You may recall that this is chef Matthew Hamilton's return to the East Village dining scene following the unfortunate closure of Uovo. Per Thorn, we hear that the place's somewhat adventurous Mediterraneanish menu will include oil-poached octopus, grilled sweetbreads and preserved rabbit legs. 84 Second Ave at Fourth St, (212) 979-2034 [Metromix; Thorn]

Frank White was a hell of a second baseman for the KC Royals back in the day. Good to see a place paying homage to him. Wait, you mean it's not?
