"Can someone tell me, is there anything in the way of Plywood going on at Essex and Delancey? My stepdaughter in Burlington, VT, is dating a guy who claims to be about to become the chef at a place opening at Essex & Delancey (to be called Le Lupanar). My hunch is that guy is full of shit. Any inklings?" [Eater Inbox]
there is a plywood just off the south-west corner of essex and delancey between chase bank and offtrack.
but most likely he isn't bullshitting you because there is a place opening on the north west corner behind mcdonalds and the parking lot that looks like it could be the place. when i last left it was looking 3 months out, but i have been sans ny for a month.
i think your daughter is giving it to the new chef of le lupanar sorry to say.
From personal experience, dating a chef is generally a bad idea, as the guys are usually players. But the one thing they rarely b.s. about is food and/or where they're working!
Vermont, you're so shilly! From the land of Ben&Jerry comes underground email marketing...zzzzzz. Hit it Skeptic! 'It takes shill to make a thing go right..." you know the rest.
103 Essex. These are the same guys who own Avenue A. Some kind of ill-conceived, kooky asian fusion concept. Interior looks well finished though. Will be hot for 1 year.
No, I'm not shilling. I'm just concerned for a vulnerable kid. The guy claims to have cooked at two other restaurants, and when I inquired, they'd never heard of him.
I'm the chef at Le Lupanar, my name is Ian, and I've been working on this restaurant for a year and a half. We're almost fully open, and if anybody wants to see if I'm full of shit they should come, have dinner and decide for themselves. BTW You're a loser George!
With all due respect to the chef, and in the interest of preserving his good name: I was erroneously informed that he had cooked at Greens in SF, not Jardiniere as is the case. I can only guess my other info is incorrect as well. In the future I'll endeavor to get my info from someone with a better memory for names.
Congratulations on your opening, and best wishes for all success.
