EaterWire: Bolo Likely to Close in 18 Months
Wednesday, September 12, 2007
FLATIRON—Pete Wells, who makes a damn good blogger when he puts his mind to it, has it that Bobby Flay's Bolo will be losing its lease in a year and a half, when the building it's housed in is torn down to make way for luxury condos. Color: "Bolo was a pioneer of sorts when it opened in 1993, a place where Mr. Flay toyed with Spanish cuisine before all the cool kids started doing it. Now the restaurant will most likely close. Mr. Flay and his co-owner, Laurence Kretchmer, have a lease that runs for another year and a half, according to Mr. Flay’s publicist. The two have not decided whether they will try to move Bolo to another building with a longer future." [NYT]
Assume news is true. Even the real estate folks selling property in the new condo building tell you that bolo is 86 in the near future because it will be the new entrance/lobby to the condo tower.
I don't think it will be open long. The new condo is supposed to be finished within 18 months . . . and the folks selling it say that demolition on the bolo building will begin . . . um, yesterday.
