BREAKING EaterWire: Chef Lynn McNeely Out at Provence
Tuesday, July 17, 2007
SOHO—According to a source close to the recently remade Soho French eatery Provence, an ill wind blows: "After a mess of bad reviews rained down upon the food side of Provence, chef Lynn McNeely was fired this morning. This follows a month of similar summarily discharges of sous chefs, bartenders, managers, cooks, waiters, porters and others. At what point will [co-owner] Marc Meyer give himself the pink slip?" Attempts to confirm the news through proper channels were met with silence this afternoon—never a good sign. DEVELOPING...UPDATE 5:39pm: Confirmation arrives from B&B: "The official word is that Lynn’s departure was a mutual parting of ways and that Marc will oversee day-to-day operations in the kitchen at Provence." [CurbedWire]
marc meyer needs to get his restaurants in order and hire some hard-hitting chefs and allow them to have freedom to make some serious back-of-the-house personnel changes. otherwise, he'll always be a victim of mediocrity..
Honestly, this place was doomed from the beginning. Does anyone actually believe the problem with Provence was its food? No-- it's the wussy decor, the undeserved attitude, the fear in the servers' eyes. Deathwatch?
