Kane's Forty Deuce Making New Friends in Nolita

Above, protest signage spotted in Nolita by an Eater correspondent. His report:

Looks like the neighbors on Elizabeth Street are trying to rally some resistance towards the very non-Nolita-esque burlesque moving into the neighborhood. This notice was up on several doors on Elizabeth in the block north of the corner of Kenmare and Elizabeth where the preliminary construction for Ivan Kane/David Bowie/Sting strip club Forty Deuce appears to have started. They're appealing to the State liquor board to reject the license. The note claims there are over 20 bars with full license within 500 feet, in addition to proximity to China Town board of Education Head Start, Mott St Senior Center, and a tutoring facility.
This much is sure: this place, in the old Charlie's Clam Bar space, is big.

How dare they try to deny David Bowie anything? The fools.

wow I heart- such an intelligent statement there.

I suggest that the residents check out the history of this establishment in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas and in Los Angeles. It is an upscale burlesque club with a very high-end, respectful clientele. The owner is also a family man, with a teenage son and a wife of 20+ years, who values the word "community." In addition, I hear that the space is being fully sound-proofed. Before jumping to conclusions, perhaps it would be best to review the reasons WHY this operator was chosen over many others who would most certainly NOT lend any credibility to the venture.

Oooh, a strip club with credibility. Reminds me of that episode of "Coupling" where the guy's girlfriend asks him if he watches porn and he gets all dignified and says, "Well, I enjoy erotica, if that's what you mean."

yeah. a strip club is a strip club.

even if it has a good buffet.

At least the person putting up these flyer's could use some clear tape and improve on the overall aesthetic of the stripper. But the blue tape is east off!

As a longtime resident of the neighborhood and someone who has actually been to a show at Ivan Kane's Forthy Deuce in Las Vegas, I don't see anything wrong with this place. (Oh, and I'm a woman.) It is NOT a strip club, it is a burlesque venue. The dancers do strip--accompanied by a live, three-piece jazz set--but they are not nude (or even topless, for that matter). It is all done in good taste (think Bettie Page, NOT Pussycat Dolls)...which is much, much more than I can say for many of the bars/restaurants adjacent to this location.

I'm a female who resides within a block of this place, too, and I don't give a damn who owns it or how "classy" it promises to be. Leave the high-profile clubs to Meatpacking Disneyland. Do we really need to add crowds to the same district that hosts San Gennaro??

Hmmm I wonder if number 4 and 9 is the same person!? Who, hmm, is maybe the owner or works for him or just magically knows his private info...
That wasn't obvious or anything.

This ain't Vegas, go away.

This will ultimately become nothing more than a playground for gays and drag queens. You all know it. Burlesque?!!?! Get the fuck out of here!!

Burlesque venue, strip club, cocktail lounge...
whatever, I just miss Little Charlie's.

this is new york. home to hungry whores and sexually repressed "gentlemen." burlesque is now the weapon of post-feminist female chauvinists.

You people don't live here!!! If you did you would be complaining about the smell from all the Chinese places not a burlesque show!! Grow up and be real New Yorkers!

As a neighbor I’m sick and tired of the clowns that trash my hood every Thursday, Friday, etc. Forty Douche will tie up traffic on Delaney, Kenmare, Elizabeth etc. Take it to 42nd St. Bowie knows better he actually lives in the hood, probably doesn’t even walk the streets his oxygen tank wont let him. All you losers that whine about the people in this neighborhood go suck your alcohol elsewhere. I DON’T WANT A STRIP CLUB WITH 600 DOUCHE BAGS IN MY HOOD!

By HUMAN at June 26, 2007 8:52 AM

NOBODY in the neighborhood wants this club -- we're all horrified. any of the comments above that supports this nightmare is probably written by someone paid by ivan kane. residents are AGAINST having a strip club in our neighborhood and we will FIGHT it.

By joanne at July 7, 2007 11:13 AM

20.

hey losers who want 40 Deuce,
Go pollute your own neighborhood - can't you get a life where you live? How pathetic. We must be special cause you all have to come here.

But don't bother. We don't need your trash, noise and vomit. Stay home!

When is legalized gambling coming to town?

To all the losers who told us to accept forty deuce:

We won, you lost, forty deuce is dead, Nolita and CB2 Rules!!

Sleezy characters take note. Bring your booze to the UES where you live. SLA is listening.
No more than 3 bars within 500 feet!

Get the picture?
